Gelato

Simply put is Gelato the Italian word for ‘Ice cream’.
Everyone knows ice cream but what is the difference between the two?
• Gelato has a lower fat percentage (3-8%) than ice cream (minimum 10%).
• Gelato is churned at a much slower rate, incorporating less air and leaving the gelato denser than ice cream.
• Gelato contains much less air, almost half of what ice cream contains.
• Ice cream is made of milk, cream, sugar and egg yolk. In comparison, gelato uses a lot of milk and a low amount of creme and eggs. In some cases gelato is made completely without eggs.
• Gelato is served at a slightly warmer temperature than ice cream.

Briefly put: Gelato is a delicious Italian desert, silky in texture and rich and intense in flavour!
